Revision hip replacement basically refers to the removal of old or worn components and replacing them with new ones. Revision is a specialist area of joint replacement surgery that is not undertaken in all centres but is offered by VITA Orthopaedics.
Failure of a hip replacement may occur over time as components wear out or begin to come loose. Revision may also be required because of infection or because of recurrent dislocation. Additionally, accidents do happen and may result in Peri-Prosthetic Fracture. If the fracture causes the hip replacement to loosen, revision hip replacement will be needed as part of the fracture fixation.
If you are concerned that your hip replacement has become painful or feels unstable please contact VITA Orthopaedics for an appointment and an expert opinion.
